Here's a quick guide to show you some of the common ways that you can use the the FanCRM to search and uncover more information about your fans.
Welcome to our FanCRM search playbook! This playbook will go into more detail about how to perform some of the most popular searches used by our partners. If you haven’t already, we highly recommend reading our “Fan CRM Search” how-to guide to become more familiar with the different types of searches you can perform.
Common Searches by Sports Partners
1. Subscribed Fans: segmenting fans for email/SMS communication
The first step to taking advantage of your growing database of engaged fans is to loop them into your communication strategy. The easiest way for you to do this is by segmenting your database by “subscribed” and then pushing these fans to your email platform of choice.
How to search for subscribers:
- Go to FanCRM Search > General
- Scroll down to “Limit Values,” and choose the “Only Subscribed” option if you are looking to isolate your email subscribers only.
- Click “search” to see your fans in this group, and either
i) Click export and export to your email integration for a one-time push, or
ii) Save the search as a filter, which can then be used to create a smart tag which will dynamically update and send fans each day to your email provider that meet this criteria.
Please note: If you are looking to isolate Phone Subscribers, you will need to select 'Limit Values' to phone subscribers only. (email and phone subscription are two separate subscription statuses).
Campaign Participants: sharing data with commercial partnerships
When you run digital campaigns with commercial partners, it’s valuable to show them some numbers. Search by “participated in X campaign” to drill down on the fans interacting with sponsored campaigns, and follow up with even more personalized communication.
How to search by campaign:
- Go to FanCRM Search > Activity
- Scroll down to “campaigns participated in” and include the names of all campaigns that you would like to search for (you can include more than one to create larger audiences).
PRO TIP: We recommend labeling your campaigns first in your Business, and then you can search by label instead of needing to search and add multiple campaigns manually. - If you have separate businesses for each of your sponsors, you can also search by “Businesses interacted with”
3. Custom Searches: Putting your custom fields to work
You’ve been collecting all of this great auxiliary information about your fans - whether they’re interested in pursuing a membership with your club, or what their favourite toppings on a pizza are - now you can use that information to better target your fans.
How to search by custom field:
- Go to FanCRM Search > Custom
- Scroll down to see all the global custom fields you can search for. If you are not sure of the options for each custom field, you can revisit each custom field in FanCRM>Setup>Custom Fields> edit
- Use the logical functions to search for your specified information
Common Searches by Music Partners
1. Fan Affinity: Segmenting fans based on the artists they love
It’s time to reap the benefits of your Spotify social log-in campaigns and ticketing data to uncover your fan’s music preferences! Whether you’re in search of peripheral fans for your upcoming festival or want to offer an exclusive experience to the fans that love artist “x”, search by affinity to strategize which fans to speak to.
How to search by Fan Affinity
- Go to FanCRM Search > Affinity
- Enter the names of all the artists and labels you would like to include in your affinity search
- You can also choose to add related artists
- Utilize your search results by creating an audience, filter or snapshot
Event Names: Understanding which fans attended your events
Let’s say your artist is jumping into a new touring market, and you’re in charge of targeting potential ticket-buyers. Using Event Names, you can search for the events of similar artists within your roster, and create an audience segment based on the fans that purchased for these events. Or, similarly, you can start with the fans you know for your artists, and target any fans that have previously attended one of their shows.
How to search by event name:
- Find the proper event name: Go to Sales > Data Cube and search by Event Name for a specified time-period.
- Once you've found the event name you'd like to search, copy it (only include the name after the date)
- Go to FanCRM Search > Purchases, and input your event name in the "Event Name" field.
- Click search to see all fans in this segment.
- Save the fan segment as an audience, filter, snapshot or send the audience directly to your email provider.
Past Purchasers: Targeting previous ticket & merch buyers
Do you know what we all strive for? Loyal fans. Show your previous ticket-buyers some extra attention by creating a specific audience just for them. Whether you’re targeting previous festival attendees, or looking for fans that have historically purchased merch, personalize your advertising strategy to feed into what they loved.
How to search for previous ticket-buyers:
You can search for previous ticket-buyers a number of ways. The first way would be to search by event (as shown above). You can also search by artist, and price code, depending on the segment you're trying to find. If searching by artist, follow the steps below:
- Go to FanCRM Search > Purchases
- Enter the event name you would like to narrow your search to, and add additional parameters, such as price code, minimum purchase price, etc.
- Click search to see results. Save your segment as a filter, audience, snapshot, or send the audience directly to your email provider.
As you get more comfortable with FanCRM search, you will be able to perform progressively more complex searches, depending on how you want to segment your fans. Use these segments to take your fan marketing to the next level with personalized advertising, spot-on email & SMS campaigns, allowing you to be more targeted and saving you money on getting the right message in front of the right fan.
