This guide will walk you through how and where to set up segments on Mailchimp using Tradable Bits Tags.
What you need before you dive into this guide:
-
A working email endpoint with Mailchimp, which includes:
- The correct audience you will be sending Tags to
- Check out this guide for how to set up your Mailchimp endpoint if you haven't already
-
Tags within Tradable Bits. We recommend using smart tags (tags based on filters you have set up). These smart tags will automatically “tag” any fan that meets your filter parameters, which means they are dynamic. You can also setup tags on Engagement Campaign configuration as well. Be sure to check out our tagging best practises guide.
Other notes before you jump in:
The tags you push over from Tradable Bits will be affiliated with the Mailchimp audience you set in your endpoint here in the integrations section under the 'Sources' tab. If you have multiple audiences in Mailchimp and do not see your tags populating, check your other audiences first as a quick way to troubleshoot.
Creating Segments in Mailchimp with TBits Tags:
- In Mailchimp, click on Audience and select the audience that you pushed your Tradable Bits tagged fans over to
-
Once you choose the correct audience, you can view all your TBits Tags in the Audience > Tags section. Before you create a segment, make sure you can see your Tag in the Tags section
-
Once you have confirmed that your tags are properly pushed to the correct audience, click the Manage Audience dropdown, and then click on Manage Contacts
-
Click Segments
-
Within Segments, click Create Segment. You will see the option to create a Segment based on a number of conditions. Choose Tag
-
Here you can create Segments based on fans that have a specific tag, or do not have a specific tag. You can also combine tags to create bigger segments using inclusive (OR) or exclusive (AND) commands
-
Once you’re happy with the conditions you’ve chosen, click Review Segment to see how many fans fall into this category, and whether you’re happy with it
-
To save this segment click on the Save Segment button. You will now see this as a configured segment when you click into your Segments list on Mailchimp
