How do I setup a Wi-Fi Portal?

Here's a step by step guide on setting up a Tradable Bits Wifi Portal.

Setting up a Tradable Bits Wi-Fi Portal:

Please note: A Wi-Fi portal is an added feature and will require your Customer Success team and Tradable Bits’ product team to be involved in implementation. This implementation is bespoke + dependent on your Wi-Fi provider. It also requires an additional implementation fee.

What is a Wi-Fi Portal?

A Wi-Fi Portal is essentially a custom branded splash page for your Wi-Fi, that allows you to get fan details (email, custom fields) in exchange for Wi-Fi access. An existing (and working) Wi-Fi infrastructure is required to implement a Wi-Fi Portal.

Why we love Wi-Fi Portals?

It’s your secret weapon for in-venue data collection. It’s always on, and it’s a familiar data exchange for fans. It also allows you to capture every fan in your arena who wants Wi-Fi, so you can expand your database with +1s to ticket buyers. The creme-de-la creme of this feature is that any information you collect is fed back into your FanCRM so you continue to build holistic + tactical views of your fanbase.

To offset the build cost, a Wi-Fi portal is a great sponsorship asset. You can brand the splash page to make it a living fulfillment tool.

How Wi-Fi Portals Work:

What Data Enrichment Can Look Like:

At its simplest, a Wi-Fi portal can include verification for:

  • First name, Last name
  • Email
  • Opt-in for comms

This by itself is a great way to capture fan data, without much lift for fans.

To slightly level this enrichment up, we also recommend adding specific custom fields, so you can begin gathering more strategic data. This could include questions like:

  • What is your seat/section number?
  • Are you a season ticket holder?
  • How many games have you attended in 2023?
  • Etc.

These types of questions will allow you to do things like:

  • Cross-reference ticket-buyers vs. Wi-Fi entrants (to see how many additional fans you are capturing in venue/who your hidden fans are),
  • Understand how many of your fans in the stadium are season ticket holders, and
  • Start collecting information on the average amount of games fans show up to (with your sample market being fans who have attended at least 1 game - seeing as they’re in your venue).

Technical Requirements:

What you provide:

  1. Wi-Fi. Before the Tradable Bits team can build a portal, you need to establish a Wi-Fi provider for your venue.

  2. Introductions. For the deep integration required to capture, authorize and copy over fan data, the Tradable Bits development team will need to work closely with the technical team of your Wi-Fi provider. You will need to facilitate an introduction. Your Wi-Fi provider can expect at least 1 call with Tradable Bits that will last a few hours.

What Tradable Bits provides:

  1. Integration with your Wi-Fi Provider.
  2. A custom-built Wi-Fi Splash Page, designed to be clear and efficient for users

Estimated Costs:

The implementation costs of a Tradable Bits Wi-Fi portal are determined on a project-by-project basis. Cost is influenced by the urgency of completion, technical build of integration, number of venues covered, etc.

How to Customize your Wi-Fi Portal:

This section refers to how to customize your Wi-Fi Splash Page once your integration has been fully set up.

Where to customize your Wi-Fi CMS:

  1. Click into your business of choice under Campaigns in the Engage Audience section
  2. On the left-hand navigation menu, click the tab called Wi-Fi CMS

How to customize your Wi-Fi CMS:

Designing your Wi-Fi CMS splash page follows the same process as designing one of our engagement campaigns. You get to customize the following:

  • Background Image/Colour (also supports GIFs)
  • Header Image
  • Content Container Colour
  • Text Colour
  • Entry Field Colour
  • Button Colours

Proceed to customize the Landing Page, Success Page (the fan successfully logged in for Wi-Fi), and a Failure Page (the fan was unable to log in to the Wi-Fi) headers and descriptions.

Here are our best practices for designing a beautiful Wi-Fi splash page:

  1. Header Images: Use transparent images that sit flush against your background. We recommend sizes at least 1000px deep.

  2. Backgrounds: Make them more interesting by using textured or gradient images.

  3. Success Page: This is a great place to drive fans to additional CTA’s (i.e. Merch Store, App Download, etc).

  4. These are the settings we generally recommend for the best results:

That’s it!
