# Getting Started with SMS Opt-in
## Here's a quick explainer on setting up SMS opt-ins and best practices.
Use SMS campaigns to quickly deliver important info and deals directly to your fans and encourage opt-ins for richer future engagement.
### **What is an SMS Opt -in?**
SMS Opt-in (also known as phone subscription) allows fans to receive your marketing communications via text messaging.
 Be aware that opt-in regulations vary geographically so you will need to verify compliance for your specific campaigns (ie- some states/provinces don't allow you to pre-check an opt-in box).
### **How do fans opt-in?**
Tradable Bits entry forms are the most effective way to collect SMS opt-ins, providing clear consent, linked privacy policies, and precise tracking of opt-in times. When collected through an entry form, these opt-ins will be automatically organized in your Fan CRM so you can easily pull your contact list for your next SMS campaign!
Fans can also opt-in or out by replying keywords to your SMS campaign:
**Reply START:** Opt-in
**Reply STOP:** Opt-out
If fans are not already opted-in they can do so by replying start to an SMS from you or STOP to cancel or opt-out.
