Ads Creative Specs Cheat Sheet 

Here's quick guide to help you create technically sound creative assets for your digital ad campaigns. 

This guide provides a comprehensive overview of the technical requirements for creative assets across all major advertising platforms. Following these specifications ensures your ads are approved quickly and display correctly across various devices and placements.

Meta (Facebook & Instagram)

Meta campaigns perform best when assets are tailored to both the Feed and the highly vertical Story placements.

  • Image/Video Dimensions:

    • Square (1:1) and/or Landscape (1.91:1)
    • Story Size (9:16)
    • Optional: 4x5 (for Instagram feeds)
  • Recommended max. File Size: 30MB for images and 100MB for videos.

  • Copy Limits:

    • Ad copy (125 characters)

    • Headline (30 characters)

    • Description (30 characters)


Google Search

Google Search ads rely on high-quality imagery and consistent branding to drive click-through rates from the search results page.

  • Search Image Requirements: You must provide images in both:

    • Square (1:1 ratio) at 1200 x 1200 px

    • Landscape (1.91:1 ratio) at 1200 x 628 px.

    Important: Ensure these images contain no text overlays or excessive blank space.

  • Business Logo Specifications: Logos must be:


Google Display

Google Display ads allow for either fully custom static uploads or responsive assets that Google assembles for you.

  • Static Display Ads: Files must be in JPG, PNG, or GIF format with a maximum size of 150KB. Top-performing sizes include the Wide Skyscraper (160 x 600, 1:3.75 ratio), Half-page (300 x 600, 1:2 ratio), and Leaderboard (728 x 90, 8:1 ratio).

  • Ad sizes (top-performing in bold):
    • 160 × 600 Wide skyscraper
    • 300 × 600 Half-page ad
    • 300 × 50 Mobile banner
    • 728 × 90 Leaderboard
    • 970 × 250 Billboard
    • 200 × 200 Small square
    • 240 × 400 Vertical rectangle
    • 250 × 250 Square
    • 250 × 360 Triple widescreen
    • 300 × 250 Inline rectangle
    • 336 × 280 Large rectangle
    • 580 × 400 Netboard
    • 120 × 600 Skyscraper
    • 300 × 1050 Portrait
    • 468 × 60 Banner
    • 930 × 180 Top banner
    • 970 × 90 Large leaderboard
    • 980 × 120 Panorama
    • 320 × 50 Mobile banner
    • 320 × 100 Large mobile banner
  • Responsive Display Ads: You must provide at least two of each:

    • Landscape images at 1200 x 628 px 

    •  Square (1:1 ratio) images at 1200 x 1200 px in the PNG or JPG format.

  • Copy requirements: To optimise performance, you must provide 5 short headlines, 1 long headline, and 5 descriptions.
  • File specs: Maximum file size for responsive assets is 5120 KB

Important Note: Any animated GIFs used in these placements must be slower than 5 FPS.


Performance Max (Google)

YouTube

YouTube ads are categorised by how the viewer interacts with them, ranging from short "bumpers" to longer skippable content.

  • Requirements:

    • All videos must be uploaded to YouTube as public or unlisted with embedding enabled.

    • Aspect ratio: 16:9 (landscape) & story size (9:16)
    • Formats: .MOV, .MP4, .MPG, (See here for all supported formats)
  • Ad Types + Lengths:

    • Skippable Ads: (Viewer can skip ad after 5 seconds).

      Length: 12 seconds to 6 minutes (recommend < 45s)

    • Non-Skippable Ads: (Must be watched before a video can be viewed).
      Length: 15seconds 

       

    • Bumper Ads: (Short, non-skippable video ads up to 6 seconds).

      Length: 6 seconds

Important Note: Non-skippable ads are 20 seconds in EMEA, Mexico, India, Malaysia, and Singapore.

 


TikTok

TikTok is a sound-on platform that prioritises vertical, immersive content.

Specifications 

  • Video dimensions:

    • Aspect ratio: 9:16

    • Length: up to 60 seconds (9-15 seconds suggested)
    • Max. File Size: 500MB
  • Carousels: Static images must also follow the 9:16 ratio and require background music to be accepted. 

  • TikTok Page:

    • You must link your TikTok page to the Business Centre via QR code.

    • Ad description: Max. 100 characters, no emojis.

  • Spark ads: 

    • A specific video code is required from the creator. 

    • Please follow the section in this guide titled "To pull content... by video code" to authorise your TikTok post.

Snapchat

  • Image & Video ads:

    • Aspect ratio: 9:16 and under 15 seconds. Keep image files under 5MB and videos under 50MB.

    • Recommended max. length: 15 seconds 
    • Recommended max. file size: 5MB (Image), 50MB (Video)
    • Brand Name: max. 25 characters
    • Headline: max. 34 characters 

Spotify

  • Audio File:
    • Length: 1 - 31 seconds 
    • File type: WAV, MP3, OGG
    • Max. file size: 1MB 
  • Image
    • Dimensions: 640 x 640 pixels
    • File type: JPEG or PNG
    • Max. file size: 200K
  • Copy/tagline: Intended to enforce the message of your audio ad like 'buy tickets now' and must be a maximum of 40 characters.
